Murray Cemetery Preservation provides educational opportunities for historical societies, cemetery associations, and other community groups interested in learning how to properly care for historic grave markers and cemetery monuments. 

Basic Cemetery Care

$400* - 1 hour workshop for up to 15 participants

Instruction includes:

• Discussing the styles of headstones & types of stone used in typical Midwestern cemeteries.

• Discussing approaches not to take when caring for headstones/grave markers

• Cleaning of headstones (discussion & demonstration}

  • Tools & materials used for cleaning

  • Issues to consider while cleaning

  • Proper use of tools & materials

  • Preventative care

Participants should expect:

• Low physical demand (repetitive arm motion, kneeling, bending over, etc.)

Optional add-ons:

• Post-instruction cleaning supervision & advising for course participants -- $75/hour
